Types of Health (Physical, Mental and Social)
In the past, it was believed that if a person is free from disease, they are a healthy person. Some believe that a person is healthy if they are able to carry out a daily routine of work.
Similarly a labourer thinks himself to be healthy, if he is able to earn a livelihood. Mothers believe that if their baby is happy, the baby is healthy. Villagers think of health as having a strong and sturdy body. According to the WHO, health has been defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being, and not merely absence of disease or infirmity.
Three Types of Health are -
1. Physical Health – Physical health is concerned with smooth functioning of various physiological systems of the body. A person should be fit to do routine work without any difficulty. They must possess normal body weight, good vision, healthy skin, proper dental conditions, good neuro-muscular coordination, etc.
2. Mental Health – Mental health is concerned with a balanced state of mind. A person must be free from stress, tensions, conflicts, confusions, depression, etc. A person must posses problem solving attitude, think about right or wrong, etc.
3. Social Health – Social is concerned with the adjustment of an individual within the society. A person is considered to be socially healthy if he is able to adjust himself/herself among the people of religion, region, status, etc. If an individual is not socially healthy, he/she may develop an inferiority complex among themselves.
